Jesus Christ was the only sacrifice clean enough to be brought before, and accepted by God to pay for our sins. The mighty wrath of God fell upon this, our sin sacrifice. Jesus was scourged, nailed to the cross, and died in our place in order to pay our sins. 

A good man who followed Jesus during His ministry was allowed to take Jesus from the cross and bury him.  This man put Jesus into a tomb that the man had made for himself.  Jesus was wrapped in the burial cloth and laid in the tomb.  The tomb was sealed with a very large stone.

Jesus had said during his ministry, "Destroy this temple and I will rebuild it in three days".  At the time no one understood what he meant.  On the third day after his death some of his followers went to the tomb.  To their amazement the tomb was empty.  (This is called Easter).  Two angels in shining garments were there and asked them, "Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here but has risen. Remember what He told you".  "The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again".

That same day the day the tomb was found empty two of Jesus' disciples were walking and Jesus joined them.  They were made to not recognize him at first.  Then as they ate and Jesus blessed the food, they recognized him. Later He came again to many of them.  Jesus Christ spent forty days after his death with them before He ascended into heaven.

Jesus Christ the Son of God is alive!
